The official Miss Forward is gilded and rests atop the Capitol Dome, which is one of the most photographed sights in Madison. Nearly every time I am downtown, I see someone standing in the middle of State Street, taking a picture of the Capitol. I was not standing in the middle of State Street, as I fear being hit by a city bus or a speed demon bicyclist (with few exceptions, cars are banned on State Street).Friday, April 13, 2007

Wisconsn has a reputation for ideals of freedom and progressiveness, no?
That is what I hear as well, though despite the well-organized and well-funded efforts of Fair Wisconsin, the state passed one of those (sadly) popular marriage amendments to the State Constitution. Also, as the state becomes more ethnically diverse, there seem to be a lot of growing pains. I suppose it's easier to be progressive when everyone else is just like you. But the short answer is yes - Wisconsin was an incubator for the early Progressive Movement. Go Fightin' Bob!
